30 young children from different schools across the state put forth their arguments on reservations, a hot topic of discussion in recent times, at the 5th HHMI Alumni Association Inter School Debate Competition organized at the Golden Jubilee Hall of HHMI School, Lichubari here on Saturday.

The topic of the debate was “Reservation at all levels should be abolished for the development of our nation”. Assam Valley School from Tezpur comprising Shagun Agarwal and Aarav Jain won the best team trophy while second best team trophy was bagged by HHMI, Jorhat comprising Swaswota Bopnos and M Hrishita Dewan.

Swaswota was adjudged the best debater in English while Shagun of Assam Valley School, Tezpur was adjudged the best debater in Hindi.

The speaker of the debate was Tasmin Hye, Ex principal of Army School, Jorhat and Yasmin Khan of CKB College, Teok,  Bhavna Rishi, TGT (English), Army Public School  Jorhat and noted Chartered Accountant  Sharad Agarwalla were the judges.
Everyone appreciated the flair with which the young students deliberated on the subject.

A scholarship amount of Rs. 20,000 was divided among the winners. This debate is organized by Alumni Association of HHMI every year.
