India’s largest private sector lender HDFC Bank announced the launch of Covid Crisis Support Scholarship for the students who have been affected by Covid19.

The bank informed that the Covid crisis support scholarship is part of Parivartan – HDFC Bank’s umbrella for its social responsibility.

Who can apply for the scholarship?

The school students as well as those pursuing Undergraduate, Postgraduate and diploma courses can avail the benefit of the scholarship programme.

Under the scholarship scheme launched by the HDFC Bank, students will be provided with a one-time financial assistance ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 75,000.

The scholarship programme is available for students who have lost either or both of their parent (s) or earning family member(s) who have lost their employment (or livelihood) during the Covid19 pandemic

HDFC Bank has created a corpus of Rs 9 crore for the Parivartan Covid Crisis Support Scholarship.

“The Parivartan Covid Crisis Support Scholarship will help around 3,200 students under two categories:
School (from class 1 to 12) covering around 1,800 students College (diploma, graduation & PG courses) covering around 1,400 students,” the bank said in a statement.

Ashima Bhat, Group Head (Business Finance and Strategy, Administration, and Infrastructure), HDFC Bank,  said, “Students are the future of our nation, and their education is important. The pandemic has adversely impacted many families across the country and the education of many students is at risk.”

“During this time of crisis, we believe in supporting talented young individuals who are going through hardships due to the pandemic and are at risk of dropping out from schools or colleges.”

“As a socially responsible corporate citizen we will lend our support in every manner possible. We have therefore launched an additional scholarship programme for those impacted by COVID to support more students,” Bhat said.

Students, whose annual family income is less than Rs 6 lakh and are pursuing studies under various boards and universities in India, would be eligible to apply.

This Covid crisis support scholarship is especially for those students who are on the verge of dropping out due to financial constraints due to the pandemic.

The scholarship programme will be managed by Buddy4Study India Foundation which hosts one of the largest scholarship platforms in India, the bank said.

This is the second scholarship programme run by the bank, it said.

HDFC Bank also has a flagship programme called Educational Crisis Support Scholarship (ECSS), which it runs annually.
