K. Envy Mashangva
Born in 1925, Mashangva was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1974 and served as Minister of State for Industry.

Imphal: Former MLA and past president of the Tangkhul Naga Long, K. Envy Mashangva, passed away at the age of 101 in Dimapur, Nagaland, on Saturday.

Family sources said his mortal remains will be taken to his native village, Choithar (Rithar), in Ukhrul district of Manipur for the last rites.

Born in 1925, Mashangva was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1974 and served as Minister of State for Industry. He later led the Tangkhul Naga Long, the apex body of the Tangkhul Naga community, as its president from 1980 to 1985.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh expressed grief over his demise, describing it as a significant loss to the stateโ€™s political and social landscape.

โ€œDeeply saddened by the passing of former MLA K. Envy Mashangva. His demise leaves a profound void in our political landscape, one that will be difficult to fill,โ€ the Chief Minister said in a statement.

Mashangva was widely regarded as a principled and committed public figure who worked for the welfare and aspirations of the Tangkhul Naga community. His contributions to public life and community leadership earned him respect across the region.

Extending condolences, the Chief Minister said, โ€œI offer my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, friends and all those inspired by his leadership. May his soul rest in peace.โ€

Mashangvaโ€™s passing marks the end of a long public life dedicated to political service and community leadership in Manipur.
