Imphal: On the second day of his visit, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited the Inter-State Truck Terminus at Lakhipur, Jiribam, on Sunday to conduct a comprehensive review of its existing infrastructure and operational systems.
He closely examined the facilities to assess their readiness and identify areas for improvement, with a core focus on enhancing operational efficiency and functionality.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Yumnam Khemchand Singh wrote: “This terminus is pivotal for facilitating the seamless movement of goods across the region. I am confident that with strengthened operational efficiency and timely augmentation of infrastructure, it will significantly boost trade and logistics activities. This, in turn, will generate diversified employment opportunities and contribute to sustained economic growth, ensuring equitable and inclusive development for the district.”
Speaking to media personnel at the site, the Chief Minister emphasized community healing: “Every community wants peace, and we need to remove the trust deficit. My objective is to restore peace,” Khemchand stated. He further expressed his governmentโs commitment to developing Jiribam into a model district.
Reiterating a significant milestone, he noted that Jiribam was the first district where people representing all communities gathered to have lunch together following the unprecedented crisis that broke out after the May 3, 2023, incident, describing the gathering as highly memorable.
Khemchand informed that, given the large area of the site, he would explore the possibilities of initiating other tourism projects at the Inter-State Truck Terminus in consultation with the Town Planning Department.
Regarding his visit, Khemchand stated that this was his second visit to the district since becoming Chief Minister of the state. He maintained that his governmentโs primary objective is to strengthen the bond among different communities and restore peace across Manipur.
The Chief Minister also led a tree-planting drive at the site, organized by the Jiribam Forest Division.
MLAs and senior officials of the state government accompanied him and participated in planting tree saplings.
