Congress MP from Assam Pradyut Bordoloi on Friday said that the Union Budget was presented just to โ€œplease the Prime Ministerโ€, hours after Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman presented her maiden budget in the Lok Sabha.

โ€œInstead of looking to the Speaker, most of the time the finance minister was looking towards the Prime Minister.  She used Hindi-Urdu-Tamil-English in her speech which was a rhetorical one,โ€ said Bordoloi.

He said that the budget does not have any roadmap. โ€œThe budget did not touch any vital issues including agrarian crisis, farmersโ€™ distress, and unemployment. In fact it was a budget to please the corporate,โ€ said Bordoloi.

Referring to the governmentโ€™s intention of making India a $5 trillion dollar economy by 2025, Bordoloi said, โ€œFor this our growth rate should be 12 per cent not 8 per cent.โ€

He further said that in spite of giving anything to the common people, the government has imposed additional one rupee surcharge on petrol and diesel.
