Along with several districts of Assam, the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) menace has taken a serious turn in Darrang district as it has already claimed three lives.

According to information, the three persons, who have lost lives due to Japanese Encephalitis, include a child and a woman.

The district malaria officer of Darrang, Shyam Baruah, informed that the deceased have been identified as one-year-old Gaurav Deka, who hailed from Duni village under Pathorighat PHC, 69-year-old Sandhya Rani Sil of Medhipara village under Jaljali PHC and Rahimuddin Ahmed of Mollapara village under Jaljali PHC.

Besides these three casualties, four other cases have been detected as Japanese Encephalitis positive.

The JE positive patients including two children have been undergoing treatment in different hospitals of Guwahati, the capital city of Assam.

Last year, the Darrang district recorded death of a total of 10 people, who lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis.

Apart from the total of 7 JE positive cases, 10 cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) positive have also been detected in the district in the recent times, district malaria officer Baruah told Northeast Now on Wednesday.
