Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang on Saturday said that the road from Kheroni to Jirikindeng will be built under Asom Mala.

He led a joint all party visit to the inter-state border of Assam-Meghalaya in West Karbi Anglong from where on June 13 an Assam police BoP was dismantled at Khaskhasla inside Assam and later a Meghalaya police BoP was removed from Pisiyar village under Jirikindeng police station.

After visiting Khaskhasla along with a team of executive members (EM) of KAAC and officials a public meeting was held at Umkhermi, Jubili Anglong.

Addressing the meeting, CEM said, “A road from Kheroni to Jirikindeng will be built as part of Asom Mala. We will hold a meeting with the chief minister of Assam and with the government of Meghalaya to solve the border problem. The problem will be solved through discussion. The place Khaskhasla is from where a BoP was remove recently is not the actual border, it is three kms away from there. As per when the KAAC was established in 1951 the border stands on the bank of Umtang River which is a natural boundary.”

“With discussion with the chief minister a police station will be set up at the bank of Umtang River along with Assam police battalion and CRPF camp. I assure you not an inch of land belonging to Karbi Anglong will be given away,” he added.

Tender will be called by KAAC and not as alleged by the opposition that all power of the Council has been taken away by the state government. At an estimated cost of Rs. 196 crore Lanka-Kheroni-Umrongso road will be constructed said the CEM.

MP Horen Sing Bey addressing the gathering said, “I suggest that you hold a discussing among yourself to give proper Karbi names to the places here.”

Earlier, the CEM laid the foundation stone for Greater Kheroni Piped Water Supply Scheme that will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 21 crore 87 lakh and 72 thousand. The scheme will be completed with one year by March next.

The fund will come from North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) (earlier known as NLCPR). NESIDS have sanctioned Rs. 40 crore for scheme in Karbi Anglong. Another scheme Greater Umsowai Water Supply Scheme will soon be taken up in West Karbi Anglong.

Compensation to Lower Kopili Electric Project affected families was also distributed at Amreng. Three persons namely Kadom Millikpi, Joysing Millik and Oleos Teron received cheques at the ceremony the rest will be given later in Diphu.

EMs Prodip Rongpi, Rupsing Teron, Amar Sing Tisso and Kache Rongpipi and Member of Autonomous Council Probhat Taro and Congress leaders, Mahila Congress, President, Kasang Terangpi, Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee, Secretary, Bidya Sing Rongpi, and Principal Secretary, Mahadananda Hazarika, Secretary, PHE, KAAC, Si-im Taro, officials and local leaders accompanied the CEM on his border visit to take stock of the situation.
