Assam Rifles holds workshop on Anti Human Trafficking

A two-day workshop on ‘Anti Human Trafficking and Child Protection Systems’ for the personnel of border guarding units of Assam Rifles was held under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) in collaboration with FXB India Suraksha, a Delhi based NGO from June 24 to 25 at Moreh, according to Assam Rifles.

The workshop which was conducted as part of project – an anti trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur, was organized by Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, says PRO Assam Rifles (South) in a press release issued on Wednesday.

The two day training workshop was attended by around 80 personnel of Assam Rifles.

The main objective of the programme was to train the officials of the paramilitary force on strengthening vigilance as well as intervention mechanisms on combating human trafficking in Manipur, it said.

Stating that the Assam Rifles is entrusted with the role of guarding and protecting citizens living in remote areas and especially borders, it said a trained force on handling cases of trafficking and child protection is need of the hour realizing the importance of the issue in such a vulnerable state sharing borders with Myanmar.

Programme manager Satya Prakash of FXBIS, project officer (Imphal) Sunil Meitei of Project Mukti and Project Officer (Ukhrul) Wungreiso A Sangh of Project Mukti were the resource persons for the two-day training workshop.

The workshop started with a pre-training test to assess the knowledge base of the personnel and concluded with a post-training test to assess the knowledge gained on human trafficking and child protection mechanisms.

The personnel were also trained on the concepts of human trafficking and how it is different from Migration and Smuggling of Migrants and were explained about the modus operandi of traffickers and how the grave issue is an organized crime with the involvement of multiple persons in the entire process, the release added.

Identification of victims and the procedures for handling cases were taught to the participants. Different Section of the Indian Penal Code, Acts such as Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Immoral Traffick Prevention Act, 1986 etc were also discussed.
