Assam Rifles on Tuesday seized raw diamond worth Rs 10 crores from two women in Hailakandi district of the State.

As per reports, the women who were caught were found to possess 1,667 gram raw diamond.

The women have been identified as Monia Sangma and Minati Sangma. Both of them hail from Meghalaya.

The expensive diamond was recovered from the possession of the two women by an Assam Rifles team at Monacherra village in Hailakandi district.

The team searched an auto rickshaw by which the women were travelling and recovered the expensive diamond from a bag.

The team later handed the women and the diamond to the police at Lala police station.

One of the accused persons, Monia, said to the police that the diamond was given to her by a cousin who works in a coal mine in Meghalaya.

Monia along with another lady Maria were travelling to Hailakandi town to sell the diamond to a customer.
