Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) called on the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Friday.

The visit of the chief minister was to pay respect and obtain blessings from him for the people of Sikkim.

The Sikkim CM placed a request to exempt the old settlers of Sikkim from the ambit of Income Tax (IT).

It may be recalled that the previous government did not place the matter to the Government of India where a committee was constituted to recommend for the exemption.

Nonetheless, the committee in their report did not even consider their case.

The old settlers made several representations to the committee constituted by the previous government. However, no efforts were made to address it.

The President listened to the demands patiently and assured to look into the issue carefully. Chief Minister also invited the President to visit Sikkim in the near future.
