In a welcome move to inspire the younger generation in taking up technology based agriculture, a promising young agri-entrepreneur of Assam’s Darrang district has organized a workshop on vermi compost.

Dhruba Jyoti Saikia of Ramgaon near Mahaliapara in Darrang district in order to encourage progressive and dignified means of livelihood and to get younger generation involved with commercial production of vermi compost has organized the month-long workshop on vermi compost free of cost at his farm centre namely DJ Agri located in his Ramgaon residential campus.

Significantly, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) has come forward with a helping hand to sponsor the month-long workshop. A total of 30 selected and interested youths apart from four senior farmers and a former Airforce personnel have taken part in the workshop with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm.

Inaugurating the workshop on Monday, the district agriculture officer Bharat Deuri appreciated the initiative of young farmer Dhruba Jyoti Saikia in organizing the workshop and hoped that the interested participants would get the detailed information on vermi compost and to get them involved in the organic farming with multi cropping system.

District development manager of NABARD Biswajit Dev, deputy project director of ATMA Siddhartha Barua, project officer of IIE Mohan Das, deputy director of SAMETI, Manik Chandra Sarma Bordoloi, agriculture development officer Yusuf Ali, editor of ‘Krishak Bondhu’ Barnali Sarma Bordoloi and media person Bhargab Kumar Das while addressing the inaugural function underlined the huge prospect of vermi compost in the futuristic aspect of scientific organic farming.

Earlier, Dhruba Jyoti Saikia greeted all the guests each with a sapling of neem variety, one packet of ‘black rice’ of his own farm field besides a phulam bihuwan as a token of honour.
