Naga tribal organizations

Naga tribal organizations, civil society bodies and pressure groups will hold a meeting to decide their stand on February 27 for the upcoming assembly elections in Nagaland.

Before Nagaland goes to polls, Naga organizations have urged the Centre for a permanent solution on the Naga political issue.

The Election Commission had announced the date for elections, on January 18.

The meeting will be held on January 25 and a four-member standing committee will participate in it. The committee will have representatives from Naga Apex Body Naga Hoho, Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation and Nagaland Gaon Burahs (village elders) Federation to coordinate with Naga civil societies and political parties.

Monday’s meeting discussed the need to come together to take stock of the present socio-political situation arising out of the announcement of the assembly election despite the growing demand for solution not election, the sources said.

The meeting was convened by Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF). NCJF President Zelhou Keyho said the solution to the Naga political issue and state election lie outside perimeters of the church.

Besides the four tribal organizations, the meeting was attended by representatives of other Naga groups and civil society organizations, the Naga Students Federation which is the leading students union in the state, NSUI Nagaland and the Pradesh Congress committee.
