Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi on Sunday said the BJP has been successful in creating religious polarisation in the society while campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.
Bordoloi has been able to win the Nagaon seat in the Lok Sabha polls, result of which were declared recently, by securing a total of 7,39,724 votes.
While addressing a press meeting in Guwahati on Sunday, Bordoloi said, “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah, the party has been successful in creating a religious polarisation among the people across the country.”

Bordoloi said, “Assam’s BJP leader Jayanta Malla Baruah had earlier said the Congress would not win the Nagaon seat as a large number of Hindu people reside there. Baruah’s speech is a solid proof that the saffron party has always been trying to create a religious rift among the people.”
A former minister of the state, Bordoloi claimed that he had received almost 51 per cent of votes in this Lok Sabha election.

He also said Nagaon has only 34 per cent of Muslim voters.
He asked if Nagaon has only Muslim people then from where he received so many votes in the Lok Sabha polls.
Bordoloi further claimed that every section of people in Nagaon , irrespective of their caste, creed and religion, had voted for him otherwise it would have been impossible for him to win the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat.
“BJP’s rule of religious polarisation has created much disturbance in the society,” Bordoloi added.
He also said in spite of BJP’s efforts to polarize voters, the people of Nagaon and Kaliabor had taken a wise decision by voting in favour of the Congress.
Bordoloi said he had not received any kind of help from union minister Rajen Gohain, who was deprived of BJP ticket.
He said he got less number of votes from Barhampur Assembly constituency which is represented by former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta in the state Assembly.
Bordoloi claimed that apart from Bahrampur, he had got maximum number of votes from Assembly constituencies like Nagon, Hojai and Lumding.
Bordoloi said as no candidate of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) contested from the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, it had been quite beneficial for the Congress.
He claimed that some AIUDF leaders had even asked the people of Nagaon to vote for the BJP.
The Congress leader said there might have been some faults in the Congress party due to which the people of the state had not voted for the party in most of the constituencies.
He further added that action must be taken against some senior Congress politicians, who had earlier protested to remove the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora from his post.
