NPF-vs-BJP-in-Manipur

Dr R K Ranjan of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its coalition partner Naga People’s Front (NPF)’s candidate Dr Lorho S Pfoze won the two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur.

The certificates of elections were handed over to the winning candidates by respective returning officers N Praveen and Rosita Haobam late Thursday night.

Manipur has two Lok Sabha seats – Inner Manipur and Outer (ST) Manipur parliamentary seats.

In the Inner Manipur parliamentary seat, Dr Ranjan secured 2,61,802 votes which is 16,830 votes more than his rival Congress candidate O Nabakishore who secured 2,44972 votes, according to reports.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Dr M Nara got 1,33093 votes and placed in third position.

However, so far no official data has been issued to media till the filing of the report except the unsigned ones.

On the other hand, NPF candidate Dr Lorho S Pfoze witnessed a landslide victory by securing around 73,782 votes more than his nearest rival BJP candidate Benjamin Shokhopao Mate who secured 2,89,745 votes as per the unsigned data available here.

Dr Lorho secured a total of 3,63,527 votes. Congress candidate K James got 1,52,510 votes.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had won both the two Lok Sabha seats in Manipur.

The counting of votes which was started from 8 am of Thursday morning continues till late night at 32 halls for EVMs and two halls for postal ballots etc in all the 11 election districts of Manipur.

Maximum number of counting halls was located in Imphal West district (8) wherein inner Manipur seat (BJP) candidate Ranjan secured 96,619 votes, congress candidate Nabakishore secured 76,624 votes and CPI candidate Nara secured 62,334 votes.

Out of 13 Assembly constituencies in Imphal West district, BJP candidate Ranjan bagged the maximum votes from Konthoujam Assembly constituency while the Congress candidate Nabakishore got the highest from Mayang Imphal Assembly constituency, it added.

Similarly CPI candidate Nara got the highest number of votes among all candidates in Uripok Assembly constituency in Imphal city.

On the other hand, in outer Manipur seat, NPF candidate Lorho also reportedly got the maximum number of votes from Ukhrul and Chingai constituencies in Ukhrul district.
