Delhi Police on Friday said that over 83 kg of heroin worth over Rs 332 crore had been seized during different operations conducted by them.

The teams which carried out the operations were led by Deputy Commissioners of Police (Special Cell)  Pramod Singh Kushwah and Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The operations led to the arrest of 11 persons including a woman from Assam, reports The Hindu.

The first operation carried out on March 7 led to the recovery of 44.5 kg heroin from a drug cartel being operated from northeast India.

As per police reports, the cartel was mainly run by a woman named Shamuta Banu.

The police got information that two persons named Dhanji Gupta and Dheeraj Kumar would come to deliver a consignment near Indraprastha Park in Delhi.

The police then laid a trap and succeeded in recovering 21 kg heroin from the duo’s bags.

After interrogation, the police found that they had been sent by Banu to deliver the drug consignment in Delhi which will then be transported to other places of northern India.

A team was then sent to Assam and following a raid, 23.5 kg of heroin was seized from Banu’s house and the woman was arrested on Tuesday.

In the operation, the police claimed to have unearthed an international cartel in which heroin was procured from Myanmar.

The drug was brought by Banu from a person in Manipur who would procure it from Myanmar. It was also processed using chemicals and sold in different places.

The second operation carried out in March 8 led to the arrests of two Manipur residents Mohd Sikander and Mohd Umar who were earlier identified as carriers of Bareilly-based kingpin Tasleem alias Mamu.

As per reports, the duo had come to Prahladpur Road to deliver a consignment to a contact of Mamu following which a trap was laid.

The police later seized 32 kg of heroin from their bag, car’s cavity and inside a deflated tyre.

The accused persons told the police that they procured heroin from Assam at the behest of Mamu and later delivered to smugglers in Delhi, UP, and to those who further send it to USA, Afghanistan and Middle East countries.

The third operation carried out on Tuesday led to the arrest of three Afghan nationals Ehsanullah, Mohammad Amin and Abdul Razzak and a Nigerian national Nnadozie Emmanuel 2.5 kg heroin worth Rs 10 crore in international market were recovered.

During interrogation, the accused persons told the police that the heroin was smuggled in India after swallowing the capsules, which were later extracted from the excreted faeces. Each capsules weigh about 20 grams and each carrier can carry few dozen capsules at one go.
