The Vice-President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, will grace the 18th convocation ceremony of Dibrugarh University as the chief guest on March 18 next. Professor Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam and the Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, will confer the degrees on the students. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Education Minister of Assam, will grace the occasion as the distinguished guests of honour during the XVIII convocation ceremony of Dibrugarh University.
“During the XVIII Convocation, two renowned persons of the State will be conferred the honoris causa D Litt and D Sc degrees. Noted poet and art critic Nilamani Phookan will be conferred with honorary D Litt (honoris causa) degree in recognition of his invaluable scholarly contribution in the field of Literature, Academics and Public life through the works of creative and critical writings,” a press release stated.
On the other hand, Uddhab Bharali, Padma Shri will be conferred with D Sc (honoris causa) degree in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the fields of Science, Innovation and Social Welfare through the works of innovation and invention.
Degrees will also be conferred on students who qualified for their degrees of the University from the period November 1, 2017 to October 30, 2018. In total, 114 PhD degrees, 78 M Phil degrees and 1,598 post graduate candidates will be conferred with their degrees during the XVIII Convocation. Besides the above,
undergraduate degrees shall be conferred on 8,816 candidates in absentia who have completed their courses of studies from various colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University.
These candidates will have to collect their certificates from their respective colleges/ institutes, which will be made available from March 30 next. Further, the candidates of the various undergraduate programmes of the Dibrugarh University campus will have to collect their certificates from the Certificate Counter of the university from April 2 next.
