The mysterious death of a Manipuri in Sikkim led to a massive protest in Imphal on Monday.

According to reports, Angom Ingocha, aged around 47 years and a resident of Phayeng Sabal Leikai in Imphal West district allegedly died in a road accident in Sikkim’s Ranipur bypass road on Sunday morning.

The deceased was working as an assistant professor in Sikkim.

Notably, Sikkim Police have arrested one person in connection with the death of the assistant professor in the suspicious accident.

Alleging that they suspect the death of the assistant professor not in accident, the residents of Phayeng demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident and deliver justice to the family of the victim.

They staged a sit-in-protest in their village while demanding that the culprit(s) should be booked and given punishment as per law. They alleged that she was murdered in a ‘stage managed accident’.

The protesting locals also demanded that the Manipur Government press the concerned authorities of Sikkim Government to take up necessary steps to inquire into the ‘suspicious’ death of the assistant professor.
