A day after Goalpara deputy commissioner Varnali Deka was threatened by Goalpara district BJP general secretary Dipankar Roy, Miya Chatra Parishad on Saturday demanded apology from the State BJP.

The students’ organisation demanded immediate and unconditional apology from the ruling political party for Friday’s incident.

In a press statement, Akheruzzaman Mollah, the president of Miya Chatra Parishad, termed the incident of threatening the Goalpara DC as a ‘shameful’ act and an insult to the people of Goalpara district.

The Miya Chatra Parishad president also stated the ruling BJP is trying to create an atmosphere of terror and destroy the administrative power of the the administration by force through its party workers.

The Goalpara district BJP on Friday took out a rally from its town-based party office at Agia Road to the DC’s office protesting the physical torture of its Tinsukia district president recently.

The rally, which was participated by the BJP Yuva Morcha activists, arrived at the deputy commissioner’s office and forcefully entered the DC’s office campus.

When the party workers were stopped at the building’s main gate, they became furious and demanded that the door be opened so that they can meet the DC.

However, at that time, DC Varnali Deka was not in her office.

As the BJP activists did not find the DC in her office, the general secretary of Goalpara BJP, Dipankar Roy, called the DC over the phone and lashed out at the district administration chief for her absence in front of camera.

The video content recorded during his call shows that he threatened the DC of transfer.

Immediately after the incident, the video went viral on the social media and also on the electronic media.

Cross-sections of people openly condemned the incident and termed it as BJP leaders’ ‘hooliganism’.

The Asom Miya Parishad threatened to call a twelve-hour Assam bandh on Monday if the State BJP doesn’t apologise over the incident.

However, the deputy commissioner’s office remained tight-lipped regarding the incident.

Kabita Deka, the district information and public relations officer, said as the DC herself is in outstation on an election commissioner’s training programme, nothing can be said at this moment.

Dipankar Roy questioned deputy commissioner Deka over the phone: “Do you want to stay here or not?”
He also questioned: “Why have you fled from office. Why have you fled seeing us ?”
He also told the Goalpara DC: “You can’t show such ‘motion’ with us.”
The district BJP president also asked her to arrive at her office to meet them.
Roy said: “You come here and receive our memorandum. You receive other political parties’ memorandums. But we are the ruling party.”
