Indian Navy divers in collaboration with the NDRF resumed their operation to retrieve the body by using the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and managed to pull it near the main shaft.

The body of one among the 15 miners trapped inside the coal mine at Khloo Ryngksan in East Jaiñtia Hills district was detected recently by the Indian Navy divers by using the ROV.

On Tuesday, the operation to extract the mortal remains resumed but due to some obstructions, the process will take some more time to bring it to the top.

Earlier the Indian Navy divers have suspended the operation because of too much disintegration when they tried to take out the body.

Spokesperson for the operation, R. Susngi said, “The Indian Navy divers in collaboration with the NDRF started the process to retrieve the body by using the ROV from 11 am on Tuesday. Till filing of this report, the remains have been pulled near the main shaft. However due to some obstruction, the process will take some more time to bring it to the top.”

Susngi said that the Odisha fire service operated their pump for 6 hours  from 11 am to 5 pm and the total discharged of water was 5,40,000 litres .

The CIL pumped out the water from 2 old shafts from Monday evening  till 5 pm on Tuesday for 31 hours and the total discharged  of water was 35,15,400 litres.

The KSB operated their pump from 8.30 pm on Monday till 5 pm on Tuesday for 20 hours. The total discharge of water was approximately 39, 60,000 litres.

The Meghalaya government has already stated that it would first sit with experts from different agencies that engaged in the operation before taking a call to withdraw the rescue operations.

The miners were trapped since December 13 last year.
