Two people were killed in a road accident along National Highway 37 while seven others injured after two vehicles coming from opposite direction collided near Dibrugarh University on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Bokul Bora (47) and Neel Akash Bora (12) of Sivasagar. Seven others who sustained injuries are undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH).
According to police, Bokul Bora’s family was coming to Dibrugarh for the treatment for their son Neel Akash Bora from Sivasagar’s Gaurisagar Dikhomukh in a Hyundai Eon, bearing registration no AS-09-B -005 collided with a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga bearing registration number AS-01-BI-5001 which was coming from Dibrugarh side. Bokul Bora’s wife who has been admitted to AMCH is stated to be critical.
“The injured have been rushed to AMCH for treatment but Mridula Bora’s condition is serious. Three of them have come for their son’s treatment at AMCH. Suddenly the other vehicle came in front of their vehicle and collided. We have sent the bodies for post mortem at AMCH. We have informed their relatives about the incident,” said Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, traffic inspector of Dibrugarh police station.
Recently, a woman riding a scooty died in a road accident at Ghrambazar in Dibrugarh. After the opening of Bogibeel Bridge, incidents of road accidents are on the rise due to rash driving.
“People violate traffic rules while driving and this is one of the major causes of accident. We have noticed that people use mobile phones while driving. We have initiated fines but still people are violating the norms. They should understand that they are risking their own lives as well as others,” said a traffic official.
