Confirming that they are part of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and due to its ideology for NE various MLAs and leaders have joined them, Sangma said, “We are part of NEDA in Meghalaya while NPP is supporting the governments in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.”

He said the team of leaders of NPP from NE gathered here to discuss various issues with regard to the ensuing parliamentary and assembly election. NPP may contest all the 24 parliamentary constituencies in the region and all Assembly constituency of Arunachal Pradesh.

“There are many issues to be kept in the agenda and the focus will be on education development, SSA teachers’ issue, agriculture development and value-addition and infrastructure development. The Act East policy will also be taken up for the development of the region and to increase the relationship with the neighbouring countries for trade and commerce and economic development,” Sangma said.

“The NEDA is an economic platform for development of the region, cultural relation, protection of region and collection of different political party and not for seat-sharing. We are having alliance in Arunachal Pradesh too if there is any issue then it would be resolved,” he added.

Sangma said that NPP has already made it very clear that it is not in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. “Six months ago, when the JPC went to Shillong, the NPP adopted a resolution to oppose the bill and will continue to do so,” he said.
