Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday distributed welfare benefits to eligible labour card holders, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), during the 25th Seva Sankalp Abhiyan at the City Convention Centre.
The Manipur Building and Other Construction Workersโ Welfare Board (MBOCWWB) organised the programme. The benefits include financial assistance for childrenโs education, medical treatment and livelihood support.
So far, the government has issued 6,813 labour cards to conflict-affected IDPs under the special scheme.
The Chief Minister said the government is committed to providing social security and educational support to the children of construction workers living in relief camps. He also said the state government is working to facilitate the safe return of displaced families to their homes.
According to official data, around 60,000 people were initially displaced after the outbreak of ethnic conflict in May 2023. About 36,000 people have since been resettled, while around 24,000 IDPs remain in various state-run relief camps.
Art and Culture Minister Kh. Loken Singh, Rajya Sabha MP A. Sharda Devi, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, MBOCWWB Chairperson K. Inaocha Devi, along with several state legislators and senior officials, attended the programme.
