Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Wednesday said that he would call a meeting of the Mizo National Front (MNF) party to discuss about the issue of passage of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and decide whether to continue in the BJP-led North Eastern Democratic Alliance (NEDA) or not.

The MNF is a part of the NEDA and an ally of the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre.

Zoramthanga said that he did not have the individual authority to decide on the matter and everything will be done after the collective decision of the MNF party.

The Mizoram Chief Minister is going to New Delhi on Saturday and will stay there for a week during which he will meet several leaders of the Central Government including the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.

He said that the meeting will be held after his arrival from the national capital and he will also be in contact with other north-eastern states and then decide on the final course of action.

The Chief Minister also said that he would raise the issue of the citizenship bill with the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.

Zoramthanga had earlier called upon the north-eastern states to oppose the bill.

He said that the MNF is totally against the passing of the bill. He futher added that the bill is ominous for Mizoram.
