A joint team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday destroyed a large area of ganja plantations in Jirania sub-division of Tripura.
According to sources, based on specific information from a reliable source, the Jirania police station authority and 71 battalion of CRPF conducted an expedition into Mandwi area under Jirania sub-division and destroyed a large quantity of contraband ganja plantations in that area.
The police authority of Jirania , meanwhile, informed that as per the policy of Tripura government to make the State drug free, prompt action was taken to take immediate crusade against such anti-social activities.
Like this contraband, ganja farming is totally illegal and those who are engaged with these activities are criminals in the view of the constitution, the police said.
The SDPO of Jirania police station Banoj and the commanding officer of CRPF Jay Singh along with a CRPF team raided the ganja fields and uprooted the plants and then set them on fire.
Reportedly around 350 ganja plants have been destroyed but no one has been arrested yet related to this contraband drug cultivation.
