Conrad reiterated that the State Government are trying hard to procure high power pumps to rescue the 15 miners who have been trapped inside a coal mine in East Jaiñtia Hills district.

Notably the rescue operation by the NDRF team had to be stopped on December 22 last due to lack of power pumps to pump out water which flooded the coal mine at Ksan near Lyteiñ river in East Jaiñtia Hills district.

The Chief Minister further disclosed that the situation ‘right now is very difficult’.

He further said that almost the entire river has flown into the mine, adding that around 12 lakh litres of water have been pumped out and the water level is still rising.

Conrad further warned in strong words to stop playing politics over the tragedy.

He also said that Union Ministry of Home Affairs is in constant touch with the State Government to monitor the situation.
