An international treat is on the cards for cricket lovers in Assam and the northeastern region.
Assam’s capital town Guwahati is all set to host some of the cricket matches to be held as part of the ICC’s Women’s Cricket Series between India and England in February next year.
Sources said that the matches will be held at Assam Cricket Association’s Barsapara stadium in Guwahati in between February 14 to March 10 next year.
The Barsapara stadium here is expected to host three ODIs and three T20 matches, sources said.
In the Barsapara stadium, the last One Day International (ODI) was played between India and West Indies on October 21 where India emerged victorious.
The tour included two tests, five one-day internationals and three T20 Internationals, and continued till November 11.
The pitch at Barsapara cricket stadium in Guwahati garnered praises from the Indian cricket team and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the stadium has been considered as a test cricket venue for the future.
The Barsapara Cricket Stadium is officially known as Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium and is nicknamed as Assam Cricket Association Stadium.
The stadium was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on October 10, 2017.
The Barsapara Cricket Stadium is 49th international cricket stadium in India.
The First International cricket match played in this stadium was held in between India and Australia which was a T20 match.
As per information, Barsapara Cricket Stadium is the largest sports stadium in the Northeast India.
