Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday called on Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh in New Delhi and held a detailed discussion on a wide range of subjects, including the proposed airport in Kohima, centrally-funded road projects and the railway line under construction, reports nagalandpost.com.

DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh took to Twitter and stated:

‘Chief Minister #Nagaland Sh @Neiphiu_Rio called on for a detailed discussion on wide range of issues including Kohima Airport, Road projects, Railway line under construction etc.’

Singh informed Rio that he had discussed the issue of setting up airport at Kohima with Airport Authority of India. He said North Eastern Council (NEC) secretary had also written to the regional executive director (aviation), North-eastern region.

Notably, there were some issues earlier regarding the land acquisition, but now the land has reportedly been acquired.

Singh also informed Rio about two road projects currently in pipeline with funding from DoNER ministry. These are upgradation of AT Road from Tsurangra to Impur junction and the 51-km road from Tening town in Nagaland connecting Lekie road in Assam.

While the detailed project report (DPR) for one of the road projects had been received, he said the State Government might cooperate in expediting finalization of DPR for other project.

Singh also shared with Rio the proposal for a new sericulture project for Nagaland. There were some technical issues in the DPR that needed to be corrected at the earliest, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister discussed with the DoNER minister the Jiribam-Imphal railway line which would include the world’s tallest railway bridge.

Rio also offered some suggestions regarding further extension of railway link to include certain destination points within Nagaland.
