The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has vehemently condemned the November 25 incident at Mechuka which left three youths with grievous injuries.

Unidentified locals of Mechuka had reportedly thrashed three youths namely Tony Sonam, Gida Gagung and Papu Dolo while they were jamming at their campsite on the concluding day of the Adventure @ Mechuka Festival.

The trio is currently undergoing treatment at the GNRC Hospital in Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast.

“It is very unfortunate that the celebration, which is meant to promote tourism in the State and where thousands of Indian and foreign tourists including people from various parts of the State participated turned into a ‘festival of misadventure’. This brings bad image of the State in the national and international area,” Congress State vice president Minkir Lollen said in a statement on Tuesday.

APCC is surprised that even after ten days of the incident, the district administration concerned is not able to book all the culprits involved in the incident. This is a total failure on the part of the administration and police of the newly created Shi-Yomi district, Lollen said.

The Congress also expressed apprehension over the fact that the local MLA of Mechuka is yet to react on the incident.

It seems he is shielding the culprits, the APCC said while terming the incident as most unfortunate and a total breakdown of law and order in State.

The party has further appealed the district administration and police to book all the culprits at the earliest and bear all medical expenses of the injured persons.

“The State Government should also compensate the victims and the district administration and local MLA should tender a public apology for the shameful incident,” Lollen said.
