In a blow to NDFB (S) militants, the Army and police operating in Assam on Sunday arrested nine rebels of the outfit at Jairampur in Arunachal Pradesh and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession.

Army officials said acting on a tip off, a joint operation was launched by the troops of Army’s Red Horns Division, Dao Division, Assam Rifles and Jairampur police and apprehended the cadres of the proscribed outfit.

The arrested rebels have been identified as Sulekha Brahma, 22, Sumuriya Narzary, 20, Rajesh Basumatry, 20, Gaodang Mochahary, 19, Rita Swrgary, 20, Rotjona Narzary, 22, Mani Ram Basumatary, 26, Dillp Narzary, 23 and Binaram Narzary, 21.

According to sources, the complete group was arrested while infiltrating into India from their training camp in Myanmar. A trap was laid on their infiltration route and all nine cadres were nabbed, said an official.

A total of nine weapons including AK-47 rifles, AK- 56 rifles, pistols and a huge cache of ammunitions were found on them. The cadres along with seized items have been handed over to police.
