The sixth North East Youth Festival began in Tripura capital Agartala on Thursday depicting the diverse socio-cultural of India amid colourful inauguration.
In a glittering ceremony, the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Youths Affairs & Sports Minister Manoj Kanti Deb, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and other dignitaries inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamp.
Thundering applause from thousands of audience, colourful balloons flying high in the cloudy sky, amid traditional music – all added a festive look.
Earlier, a colorful procession consisting of the participants in their traditional attire and playing music and songs went through the streets of the capital city.
Nearly 1,000 boys and girls representing various states and union territories with a large contingent of delegates from each of the eight north-eastern states assembled in the State capital to participate in the four-day cultural extravaganza sponsored by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
The varied cultural mosaic of India came alive at the Children’s Park stadium when hundreds of youths from the length and breadth of the country joined the opening ceremony in their traditional attires.
Along with sporting events, the youth festival will see cultural events including folk music, dance, martial arts, adventure sports, handicrafts shows.
The festival will also witness a number of competitive events like rock band contest, one-act play, folk dance, folk music, classical dance competitions which shall play a vital role to understand each other’s diverse socio-cultural background and contribute towards nation building.
