Hundreds of women gathered at the official residence of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for ‘Bhai Phota’, a prominent Hindu festival.

Considering the young Chief Minister as their brother they performed the rituals and expressed that they were very happy to do so as Deb has not only taken initiative to protect the women and make the state crime free but had also empowered the women by taking Cabinet decision for ten percent parallel reservation for women in all recruitments in the Home department.

Meantime, the Chief Minister sitting by the side of his wife Niti Deb gifted a photo of Maa Tripureshwari and Prashad and said that his focus is to make Tripura free from crime against women and empowerment of women.

The festival of Bhai Phota, generally celebrated on the Dvitya or the second day after the Kali Puja, is a traditional festival and holds a special importance for brothers and sisters.

It is celebrated in every home during which sister puts a vermillion ‘tikka’ on her brother’s forehead and prays for her brother’s for long life and every brother promises their sister’s to protect them from evils.
