The Northeast Frontier Railway on Tuesday introduced seven special trains for devotees to attend the Diwali fair at Mata Tripurasundari temple in Tripura’s Gomati district.
Six trains from Agartala and one train from Dharmanagar, bordering Assam in North Tripura district. Besides, all regular trains from Silchar in Assam and Dharmanagar will operate.
The Mata Tripurasundari temple is one of the 51 shaktipeeths in the country and a huge mela is organized on Diwali by the temple committee every year.
More than one lakh devotees visit the temple this time.
Maharaja Dhanya Manikya installed the idol of Tripurasundari in 1501 on Rangamati hillock, 5km from Udaipur town, which was then capital of Tripura.
According to Rajmala, the royal chronicle of the Tripura’s Manikya dynasty, Dhanya Manikya was planning to set up a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. But goddess Parvati instructed him in a dream to worship Tripura Sundari (Kali) in the temple in Udaipur.
The five-foot Tripura Sundari idol is made of kasti stone.
