Reacting to the case filed against him, All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) founder president Pradip Dutta Roy on Monday said that no police complaint can silence his voice.
“I have learnt that FIRs have been filed against me. I have no issues with these cases coming up against me. Being a lawyer of Guwahati High Court, I am aware of the legalities of it and would contest each one of them. Why just two or three FIRs, one can file 20 to 30 FIRs against me, but I won’t remain silent at the interest of the people of Barak valley,” Dutta Roy told reporters at his residence here on Monday.
Anamul Haque Laskar, general secretary of United Front of Former ULFA’s Barak valley wing, on Monday filed a case at Silchar Sadar Police Station against seven political leaders and activists including Dutta Roy for their alleged provocative statements.
Earlier two FIRs—one at Dispur Police Station another one at Nalbari Police Station were registered against Dutta Roy.
He said that filing FIRs against him can never solve the problem of Citizens (Amendment) Bill and NRC.
“Filing FIRs against me won’t serve the purpose or find a permanent solution to this contentious issue of Citizens (Amendment) Bill, 2016 or National Register of Citizens (NRC). Most of the people in Barak valley are seeking the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, be ‘passed’, while people in Brahmaputra valley are dead against it,” he told Northeast Now.
He further added that all ‘Jatiyatabadi sangathan’ both from Barak and Brahmaputra valley must seat together and discuss these issues.
“Peace meets, both in Guwahati and Silchar, can be organised with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal leading the show in order to restore peace in the state,” Dutta Roy added.
He said that not a particular community is responsible for the present situation of the state. “Neither Bengali community or nor Assamese community is responsible but a third force is involved in it.
“I know who is doing all these, but won’t name now. The investigating agencies should find out these forces, or else more such incidents will occur in the days to come,” he said.
