The Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, offered prayers at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh on Sunday.

Informing about this, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh on its official Twitter account on Sunday stated: “High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla offered prayers at the ISKCON temple at Cox’s Bazar.”

At a time when India’s BJP-led NDA Government has been trying to give shelter to the Hindu Bangladeshis, who fled their country allegedly due to religious persecution, the Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Shringla’s visit to the temple and offering of prayers in a ‘peaceful’ environment bears much significance.

Cox’s Bazar, which is a town on the southeast coast of Bangladesh, is known for its very long, sandy beachfront, stretching from the sea beach in the north to Kolatoli Beach in the south.

Cox’s Bazar, situated alongside the beach of the Bay of Bengal, is the prime beach and tourist town in Bangladesh.

In a bid to make the most out of its 7,500 km-long coastline, India is also planning to begin cruise service to connect Chennai to Cox’s Bazar.

The Indian Government is also hopeful of attracting private players to operate on the route.

Pravir Pandey, chairman, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) recently told a section of the media:  “We will soon start the India-Bangladesh coastal cruise line between Chennai and Cox’s Bazar.”
