As the Durga Puja festival is being celebrated both in India and Bangladesh with religious fervour, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, offered prayers at the historic Dhakeshwari temple in Dhaka of Bangladesh on Wednesday.
High Commissioner Shringla offered prayers on the occasion of Ashtami and sought blessings of Goddess Durga.
The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh also distributed prasad among the devotees in the temple.
Dhakeshwari national temple in Dhaka is a state-owned Hindu temple.
The name ‘Dhakeshwari’ means ‘Goddess of Dhaka’.
This was the third visit of the High Commissioner to the temple during Durga Puja.
Informing about the visit of High Commissioner Shringla to the temple, the officer of the High Commission of India in Bangladesh on its Twitter account stated on Wednesday: “High Commissioner Harsh V Shringla offered prayers at the historic Dhakeshwari temple on the auspicious Maha Asthami of Durga Puja 2018.”
“The High Commissioner also distributed prasad among the devotees in the temple. This was his third visit to the temple during Durga Puja,” it added.
Durga Puja which is the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community living in bangladesh, began on Tuesday with the incarnation (Bodhon) of the Goddess Durga on the day of Maha Shashti at Hindu temples in different parts of the neighbouring country.
