Magisterial inquiry has been initiated against Joint Director, Health Services, Dr Avijit Basu following filing of an FIR on allegations of corruption in Hailakandi Sadar Police Station by PSOYF, a students’ organisation on Saturday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (in-charge of Health), EL Fairheim, instituted the probe and directed Circle Officer, Hailakandi, Tridip Roy to inquire into the allegations of corruption against Dr Basu and to submit a report to him.
Meanwhile, Circle Officer Roy submitted a report to ADC Fairheim in which he corroborated the charges of corruption levelled against Dr Basu by the students’ organisation.
It is learnt from reliable sources that the findings of the magisterial inquiry report has been sent to the health authorities in Dispur for initiating action against Dr Basu. A case has also been filed by the district administration against the Joint Director at Hailakandi Sadar Police Station on Sunday.
The Hailakandi district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner, Adil Khan has adopted a zero tolerance policy against corruption and has initiated actions against those found indulging in corrupt practices.
Sources in the Additional Chief Medical and Health Office here said Dr Basu had been in a cesspool of corruption since day one of his assuming office and had a bad track record in his earlier place of posting at Bongaigaon.
A video footage of Dr Basu accepting bribe from an employee at his office chamber went viral in the social media, creating ripples across the district.
In a swift development, the Directorate of Health Services has transferred and posted Dr Basu to Baksa. He has handed over charge to Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr Abed Rasul Mazumder on Sunday afternoon.
Investigation is on by the district police. A posse of policemen went to the Office of Joint Director, Health Services on Saturday as part of the investigation.
