Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Okram Ibobi Singh questioned the BJP-led governmentโ€™s right to remain in office following the latest civilian casualties.

Singh led an INDIA bloc delegation that met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at Babupara on Tuesday after three civilians were killed and several others injured at Khongban Sunurok.

He said protecting civilian lives was the state governmentโ€™s primary responsibility and called for an end to the continued violence among local communities.

The opposition delegation criticised the governmentโ€™s handling of the law and order situation and asked why an all-party meeting had not been convened.

Singh said the INDIA bloc was ready to seek central intervention if the state government could not control the situation.

He also accused the Centre of failing to act, questioning whether Manipur and its people were being treated as part of the country.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh later confirmed the meeting on social media, describing it as cordial. He said the opposition representatives had expressed serious concerns about the security situation and formally requested an all-party meeting.

He assured them that their concerns would be reviewed and said the government would continue working with others to restore normalcy.

The opposition delegation included Congress Legislature Party leader K. Meghachandra Singh, Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and representatives of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Revolutionary Socialist Party, All India Forward Bloc, All India Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena (UBT).
