North Lakhimpur: Richita Hazarika, a young scientist from North Lakhimpur in Assam, has been selected for a fully funded doctoral fellowship under the European Union’s Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme to pursue research at the Universidad Pรบblica de Navarra (UPNA) in Spain.

Hazarika will join the university as a doctoral researcher under the European Union-funded MGICIAN project, an MSCA Doctoral Network initiative focused on developing next-generation magnesium-based thermoelectric materials for energy-efficient solid-state cooling applications.

A gold medallist in the MTech programme at Tezpur University in 2025, Hazarika will research the development of a hybrid refrigerator with precise temperature control to prevent temperature fluctuations. Her research will be conducted at UPNA’s Department of Engineering under the supervision of Professor David Astrain.

The MGICIAN project brings together academic institutions and industrial partners from across Europe. It will train 15 doctoral candidates while advancing cooling technologies aligned with the European Union’s climate and energy objectives.

The Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions, named after Nobel laureate and pioneering scientist Marie Curie, support researchers through international research opportunities, interdisciplinary training and career development.

Hazarika is the daughter of Prabhat Hazarika, an entrepreneur, and Runjun Baruah, a librarian at Lakhimpur Commerce College.
