Imphal: Properties valued at crores of rupees were destroyed when a massive fire tore through Kumbi Bazar in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Tuesday evening. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The blaze erupted around 6:30 pm at Kumbi Keithel Thongkhong, triggering widespread panic as flames rapidly engulfed three commercial establishments.
A grocery store, a barber shop and a pan shop-cum-hotel were completely incinerated before emergency teams could contain the destruction.
First responders, including the Moirang Fire Brigade with three engines and the Fire Disaster Management Team, launched an intensive, hours-long operation to battle the inferno.
Local police, army personnel and neighbourhood residents joined the effort to halt the fire’s progression towards adjacent structures.
Preliminary assessments indicated a short circuit as the probable trigger for the disaster.
Officials stated that a formal investigation was underway to confirm the exact cause and evaluate the total financial loss, with further details awaited.
