In their efforts against gold smuggling, the Rapid Action Battalion personnel were able to arrest five active members of a gold smuggling gang along with 43 kg of gold in Manikganj district of Bangladesh on Thursday morning.
As per a report published on Thursday by The Star Daily, the members of the gold smugglers’ gang, who have been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion, were identified as 30-year-old Seikh Zahidul Islam, 36-year-old Sheikh Aminur Rahman, 36-year-old Md Moniruzzaman Rony, 42-year-old Iahiah Amin and 28-year-old Md Johirul Islam Tarek.
It has been reported that a team of Rapid Action Battalion-2, acting on a tip-off, launched separate raids last night, the report quoted Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Director of RAB’s legal and media wing as saying.
Earlier, on September 2, 2018, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested six alleged members of a gold smuggling gang along with 120 gold bars, weighing around 14kg, on two buses on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Narsingdi.
A report published by The Star Daily on September 4 stated that the RAB suspected the gold was smuggled into the country, dodging law enforcers and airport security forces.
The report had quoted Maj Rahat Harun Khan, acting Commanding Officer of RAB-3, as saying, the accused received the gold in Sylhet and were supposed to deliver the consignment in Dhaka, the national capital of Bangladesh to smuggle it to a neighbouring country.
