Imphal: The body of a 68-year-old retired Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was recovered from the Khuga (Tuitha) River near S. Geltui village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Sunday morning after an overnight search.
Local residents found the body, identified as Lungawi, at around 8:40 am. He had drowned while fishing alone the previous day.
Authorities handed over the body to his family later that morning.
The incident came to light when Lungawi failed to return home by late Saturday evening. His relatives said he had left for his usual fishing spot earlier that day. Worried about his prolonged absence, they began searching the riverbank.
The search party found his personal belongings floating in the water near his usual fishing spot.
Local residents then joined an overnight search along the river. The search ended with the recovery of his body on Sunday morning.
