Guwahati: A doctor at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati was arrested by Bhangagarh Police on Saturday following a woman’s complaint alleging sexual assault during a medical examination.
The accused, identified as Rishikesh Adhikari, was arrested after the woman alleged that he touched her inappropriately while examining her. According to the complaint, she had visited the doctor to show him her fiancé’s medical reports and was accompanied by her aunt.
The woman alleged that the doctor asked her aunt to leave the examination room before questioning her about her personal relationship and insisting on examining her.
She subsequently lodged a complaint at Bhangagarh Police Station, prompting an investigation. Police arrested the doctor and are questioning him in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, GMCH authorities have initiated a departmental inquiry into the allegations.
