Guwahati: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke remained under preventive detention on Saturday, a day after Delhi Police took him into custody ahead of the partyโ€™s planned โ€˜Lehra Do Tirangaโ€™ protest in Delhi.

Advocate Ratna Singh confirmed on X that Dipke would be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) at Mandir Marg Police Station around noon. CJP representatives had earlier alleged that police had taken him to an unknown location, preventing his lawyers from meeting him.

Police took Dipke into custody at his home on Friday under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which empower authorities to enforce preventive restrictions.

All India Studentsโ€™ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora, who was also detained on Friday, was released the following day after completing the formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.

After her release, Bora alleged that police kept detainees in custody overnight before releasing them the next morning. She also claimed that officers initially prevented her from consulting a lawyer and that her legal team made repeated attempts to contact her.

Bora opposed the restrictions imposed in central Delhi during protests against the Election Commissionโ€™s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She called for the exercise to be stopped and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to be impeached.

She also accused the authorities of treating ordinary citizens like hardened criminals and said such conduct had continued in the country for a long time.

Delhi Police registered several FIRs over alleged breaches of prohibitory orders during Fridayโ€™s demonstrations in Connaught Place and other parts of the capital. Police officials said people gathered in the area despite repeated announcements warning against public assemblies. They said action would be taken against those violating the restrictions, including repeat offenders.

The CJPโ€™s October 16 rally call drew protesters to Central Park in Connaught Place, where security was tightened. AAP workers and supporters also held a Tricolour rally against the Election Commission over alleged electoral irregularities.

Police took more than 150 people into custody during the demonstrations, including student and political activists Dipke and Bora.
