Digboi: Assam’s Digboi Co-District Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions for Durga Puja to manage congestion and ensure pedestrian safety.
Private four-wheelers will be barred from a road stretch leading to Paragdh ar Chaliha Auditorium, which has been designated a walking zone.
Under the advisory, private four-wheelers will not be allowed on the Digboi–Pengaree Road from Digboi Chariali towards Paragdh ar Chaliha Auditorium via Jasoda Road.
Vehicles heading to the auditorium must follow the route from Digboi Chariali via Digboi–Margherita Road, Railway Station and IOCL Road.
Vehicles arriving from Pengaree must take the route via IOCL Road, Digboi–Margherita Road and Digboi Chariali.
Motorists have been asked to follow the designated routes and comply with instructions from traffic personnel.
The police have also restricted the movement of trucks, tankers, dumpers and other heavy commercial vehicles from 3 pm to 11 pm at two locations: the ‘Welcome to Digboi’ point on the Makum–Digboi Road and Golai Terminal on the Digboi–Margherita Road.
Night super buses, ambulances and other emergency service vehicles are exempt from these restrictions.
Motorists have been urged to avoid restricted stretches and cooperate with police personnel to ensure the smooth movement of pedestrians and vehicles during the festivities.
Meanwhile, the Tinsukia district magistrate has declared October 21, Vijayadashami, a 24-hour dry day across the district under Section 52(1) of the Assam Excise Act, 2000, as amended.
The order, dated October 16, prohibits the possession of intoxicants and the sale, supply, distribution or serving of liquor during the stipulated period.
Wholesale warehouses, retail liquor outlets, bars and other establishments covered by the order must remain closed. The authorities have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
