Tinsukia: Students from various schools and colleges staged a protest at Thana Charali in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Tuesday, demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and seeking accountability from the authorities, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“The assault on students at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi is a matter of shame for Indian democracy. We still have a chance to wake up; we have to change this government,” a protesting student said.
Holding placards and raising slogans, the protesters alleged that recurring controversies surrounding national-level examinations have undermined students’ faith in the country’s education system.
They called for a comprehensive probe into the alleged irregularities and strict action against those found responsible.
“We are labelled as anti-nationals when we ask questions. We want the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan,” another student said.
The demonstrators also expressed solidarity with students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, arguing that the future of lakhs of aspirants should not be jeopardised by alleged lapses in the examination process.
The protesters maintained that public confidence in competitive examinations can only be restored through transparency, accountability and swift corrective measures.
The agitation in Tinsukia mirrored similar demonstrations reported from different parts of the country, where students and youth organisations have raised concerns over the integrity of examinations and demanded stronger safeguards against malpractice.
Apart from the student protest at Thana Charali, several other organisations in the district also held demonstrations, voicing support for a credible investigation and reforms aimed at protecting the interests of students.
The protest remained peaceful, with participants reiterating their demand for a transparent examination system, accountability in the conduct of national-level examinations, and justice for affected aspirants.
