In a sensational incident, a convict fled from police custody on Tuesday noon from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) when one Assistant Sub-Inspector and two constables took him to the hospital for medical check-up.
The convict, who was arrested by Dispur Police four months back for being involved in a case of kidnapping of a five-year-old child from a Kid Veda school located at Sreenagar area in Guwahati, has been identified as Kewal More.
It may be mentioned that Kewal More along with three of his associates kidnapped the five-year-old son of Manbik Surana, who hails from Bhaskarnagar of Fatashil Ambari.

Talking to Northeast Now, the Officer-in-Charge of Bhangagarh Police Station, Bipin Medhi informed that a case (No 170/18) under Section 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the Indian Penal Code) has been registered at the Bhangagarh Police Station on the basis of an FIR lodged by ASI Jibon Chandra Deuri.
Sources said, “Assistant Sub-Inspector Jibon Chandra Deuri and two constables Nowel Kishor Roy and Rupak Roy of Dispur Police Station took More to GMCH for medical check-up.”
However, the police authority has taken action against the police personnel on duty for negligence of duty.
Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Pradip Saloi said, “ASI Jibon Chandra Deuri and constable Nowel Kishor Roy have been placed under suspension due to negligence of duty.”
Saloi also said that another constable, Rupak Roy, would be suspended by the 3rd APBn Commanding Officer as the constable belongs to that battalion.
The kidnapping case in which the accused, Kewal More, was involved, happened in the month of May this year.
The police were able to rescue the child in less than 11 hours of the kidnapping.
