Doomdooma: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed grief over the death of Himashree Boro, a 20-year-old student from Assam whose body was found beside railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh.

He also conveyed his condolences to her family and initiated steps to ensure a speedy investigation into her death.

Boro, a student of B. Borooah College in Guwahati, had travelled to Visakhapatnam with a dance troupe. She was returning to Assam aboard the Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express when she went missing during the journey.

According to reports, she had contacted friends and family members, expressing fear and discomfort over the presence of allegedly unruly and intoxicated men in her train coach. Her body was later found near railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district.

Her family has raised concerns over the circumstances of her death and alleged negligence by railway authorities.

A preliminary inquiry by the Government Railway Police has reportedly indicated the possibility that she fell from the moving train. However, the exact circumstances of her death remain under investigation.

Following the incident, Sarma assigned a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer to oversee the matter.

The Chief Minister has also written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, seeking their intervention to ensure a prompt and thorough investigation.

The move follows concerns raised by Boro’s family about the circumstances of her death, passenger safety and the response of railway authorities after she went missing.

The investigation is expected to establish the sequence of events leading to Boro’s disappearance and death and address the concerns raised by her family.
