Imphal: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has denied allegations linking it to the ambush and killing of three leaders of the Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI) near Kotzim in Manipurโs Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, the NSCN-IM termed the allegations circulating on social media as โmaliciousโ and โfabricatedโ. The outfit also rejected reports naming an individual identified as MS Chekneichung Chiru, alias Achung, as one of its members, stating that no such person exists within its ranks. It described the reference to the name as fictitious and defamatory.
Meanwhile, tensions along the India-Myanmar border have intensified following a reported drone attack on the residence of NSCN-K (YA) commander Akham Konyak in Langkho village, situated in the Naga Self-Administered Zone of Myanmarโs Sagaing Region.
The strike reportedly took place in the early hours of Friday and injured two people, including a nine-year-old girl. According to regional media reports, two projectiles failed to explode after landing. The incident nevertheless caused damage in the area, while no deaths have been reported so far.
The reported drone strike comes days after another major security incident along the border. The Yung Aung faction of the NSCN-K, together with the Revolutionary Peopleโs Front (RPF), claimed responsibility for an ambush on a patrol of the 21 Assam Rifles near Nampong in Arunachal Pradeshโs Changlang district on September 29.
One security personnel was killed and four others were injured in the attack. The insurgent groups also claimed to have recovered an AK-series rifle from the site following the ambush.
