Doomdooma: A 28-year-old man allegedly engrossed in a mobile phone conversation while crossing a railway track died after coming in contact with a moving train near Navapukhuri Railway Gate in Assamโs Tinsukia town on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rohit Sharma. The incident occurred at around 11 am under the Tinsukia Railway Division, where shunting operations were underway at the time.
โThe driver observed him and gave a horn, but as he was talking on the mobile phone, it went unheard. An emergency brake was then applied, but unfortunately he came in contact with the train and the incident occurred,โ R.K. Yadav, Officer-in-Charge of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), told Northeast Now.
According to the RPF, Sharma was crossing the railway track while allegedly talking on his mobile phone when the driver noticed him and sounded the horn.
Despite the emergency braking, the collision could not be averted. Tinsukia Police and RPF personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and initiated the necessary procedures.
โAll unauthorised railway crossings will be closed down within three days here,โ Yadav further told Northeast Now, speaking about safety concerns and measures being taken in the area.
Further legal proceedings are underway.
