Guwahati: A Gauhati University student was found dead in Garal, Azara, hours after she reportedly told her mother that a friend had assaulted her at a homestay in Dharapur.
The deceased was identified as Nimisha Thakuria, who was enrolled in a five-year integrated course at Gauhati University.
She had left home around 11 pm to spend the night with the friend at Rudra’s Kitchen in Dharapur.
Nimisha later contacted her mother and told her that the friend had physically assaulted her. The call ended soon afterwards, and her phone was subsequently found switched off.
Her family then informed Azara police, who began searching for her. Police later located her body near a hospital in Garal.
The body was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
The cause of her death is yet to be established, and police are continuing their investigation.
